Better late than never. Twenty-three years after release on an arcade machinehere it is dragon flame finally showing the tip of his nose on Xbox. Not too early! A masterpiece from Psikyo, a studio whose expertise in Shoot’em Up is beyond proof, dragon flame is a particularly diabolical and superbly implemented vertical scrolling shooter.
The graphics are impressively detailed and each level has its own graphic identity. There is no recycling here. Fluidity is key and will stand you in good stead as the avalanche of gunfire will regularly urge you to retreat. Expect to break a sweat even if you’re a fan of the genre.
In short, everything is fine on the scenario page, then the demons come and we send the four best warriors in the kingdom to the fire to save everyone. Oh yes, I forgot one detail, they ride dragons. A strong strategic argument.
Especially since each of the dragons has special abilities. Your main weapon is not enough? Summoning your secondary fire can get you out of trouble, but be careful, only for a limited time as it’s limited by a meter. Special bombs linked to the different characters will also help you on your journey…but nothing will replace the “Dragon Shoot”.. In addition to sending your dragon into battle alone, thereby pooling your efforts, Good timing will allow you to take out bosses with just one hit. You just have to find the right moment! dragon flame is the essence of shoot ’em up, nothing less. Great, tactical and challenging, that’s the one Good work of Psikyo and the completion of years of work on this genre, but unfortunately nothing for beginners. If the mere idea of dodging thousands (I’m hardly exaggerating) of shots a minute horrifies you, go ahead. For fans of the genre, go for it!
