For Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the developers programmed a fully simulated whip.
The presentation of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is on everyone’s lips among gamers and archaeological fans alike. Yesterday’s reveal and gameplay excited many players, probably also because Indy is cracking the whip.
Game director Jerk Gustafsson spoke about the challenge of programming the “fully simulated whip” and what players can expect from it in an interview on the website LucasArts.
Gustafsson says: “Our main goal was to make it as useful and versatile as possible. Normally, when you think of the whip, you think of a means of transportation that allows you to move through the environment by swinging and climbing. But when we started working on it, we focused primarily on combat as we knew that would be the most difficult part of the feature.”
“It should work well not only in combat, but also in combination with other important combat tools, such as melee combat and using items in the world. We also chose a fully simulated whip, which was technically challenging, but we achieved the gritty and realistic feel that is so important to us.”
Professor Jones goes on a new adventure later this year in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. You can play it on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and from day one via Game Pass for console and PC.
