Inside Xbox Series X|S Tweaked: Ravenlok

This means they have taken full advantage of the unique capabilities of the Xbox Series X|S, both for new titles native to the Xbox Series development environment

In our Inside Xbox Series Today series, we chat with Martin Gauvreau, Lead Programmer and Director at Cococucumber, about optimizing Ravenlok for Xbox Series X|S.

Q: What excites you most about developing and bringing Ravenlok to life on this generation of hardware?

A: One of the most exciting things for us has been bringing the magical world of to life Ravenclaw with 4K resolution and 60 frames per second on Xbox Series hardware. at 60fps, Ravenclaw runs very smoothly, so the overall experience is not only visually stunning, but also responsive in real-time combat.

Q: What Xbox Series features

A: Since Ravenclaw takes place in a stylized fairytale world. Our goal was to fully immerse the player in the stunning setting, adorable characters and heartfelt story. We were thrilled that the new power and performance allowed us to push our level beyond our previous capabilities while still staying above our target frame rate and load times. As structure of Ravenclaw Because it’s a series of levels that are interconnected, we took advantage of the Xbox Series X|S’ SSD technology to create seamless transitions between levels. We know nobody likes load times, so we’re excited to offer players a more continuous and immersive experience.

Q: How will these improvements affect a player’s experience with Ravenlok?

A: Players love it! At Ravenlok, we look to meet specific frame rate benchmarks on the current generation, Xbox Series X|S, as well as previous generation consoles such as Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox One. On Xbox Series X, players will be immersed in vivid and detailed environments in full 4K resolution. Both on the Xbox Series

Q: How is it when over half a million people are playing Ravenlok?

A: It’s a dream come true for us to have so many people playing Ravenlok on Game Pass. With over 500,000 players in six weeks, this is an incredible milestone and we are grateful to all Ravenlok players and fans on Xbox. Thank you for playing Ravenlok. We hope you enjoy your adventure!

Q: Why did your team choose to focus on higher resolution and frame rates as areas for improvement? Ravenclaw?

A: Although Ravenclaw has a very nostalgic feel with its fairytale setting and voxel art style. We wanted to make sure it also resonated with a modern gaming experience and fast, responsive combat. The 4K resolution lets gamers see all the details we’ve built into the environment, and the high frame rate makes gaming a pleasure. Epic boss fights make up a large part of the combat experience Ravenclawand being able to defeat a massive boss at a smooth 60 frames per second feels extremely satisfying.

Q: What do you expect from the fans? Ravenclaw Will it respond to Xbox Series X|S gaming with these improvements? A: A lot of what we do on the technology and optimization side is often invisible – if it works, and does it well, the player shouldn’t even notice it. We hope fans will be fully immersed in the world of RavenclawThey follow their curiosity to explore all corners of the world and embark on an incredible adventure. That has always been our goal Ravenclaw and we hope the improvements like higher resolution and framerates on Xbox Series X|S will help.

Q: What is it like to develop on the Xbox Series X|S?

A: Xbox Series technology and features We’re always learning and trying new ideas, so it’s incredibly rewarding to see our vision Ravenclaw come to life in a way that wasn’t possible before.

Since Ravenclaw is the last title in our voxel trilogy [also including Echo Generation and Riverbond], we’ve improved our pipeline for working with the Xbox Series X|S. This saved us a lot of time in production and QA so we can focus on improving the game instead of struggling with technical limitations.

Q: What does Smart Delivery mean for your game and how do you bring Ravenlok to the fans?

A: Since Ravenclaw supports all console generations from Xbox One to Xbox Series X. We can really use Smart Delivery to deliver the best available version of the game to the player. When a player has started Ravenclaw on the Xbox One and later decides to switch to the Xbox Series We love that fans can have this experience and not be limited to getting their hands on the best version of Ravenclaw.

Q: What enables the development of the Xbox Series X|S in current or future projects that you could not have achieved with the previous generation of consoles?

A: As game developers, we are continually pushing the boundaries of what we can do in terms of performance and features, but also through our creativity. With the Xbox Series looking to the future, we’re excited to see how it continues to evolve and continue to innovate and bring even more immersive, creative, and fun games to our fans!
