Hideki Kamiya would like to develop Capcom sequels to Okami and Viewtiful Joe.
Hideki Kamiya, co-founder of PlatinumGames, expressed his interest in further installments of two popular classics in a conversation.
The legendary video game designer would like to make sequels to the side-scrolling beat’em up Viewtiful Joe and the action-adventure Okami.
Kamiya said, “I would be more than happy. Just because 8 people played Viewtiful Joe doesn’t make people excited. This game was also stopped halfway through. So I have to finish it. I want to finish it.”
“In the poll Capcom did last time, Viewtiful Joe wasn’t listed as an option. So I responded and said, ‘I’m Hideki Kamiya, let me make the sequel to Viewtiful Joe.’ I wrote that and sent it in, it wasn’t even published in the poll. The director himself is asking to remake the game, but they don’t even want to talk about it. What the hell, Capcom?”
Kamiya would like to finish the story of Okami. He sees it as the duty of a developer, as he further explains.
“You know the story ends in the middle, so I feel bad if I leave it as it is… I think the developers have a duty to make sequels that fans want to see. Even though I sound grandiose, it’s been a while since I left Okami behind. But I still feel like I haven’t done my duty, so Capcom, please – let’s do it together,” said Kamiya.
