Microsoft officially announces that 10,000 jobs will be cut, including game developers at Xbox Game Studios.
Just yesterday we reported that Microsoft is going to cut about 10,000 jobs. Satya Nadella has written to all employees and announced that the jobs will be cut by the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2023.
Among other things, Satya Nadella announced: “Today we are making changes that will result in a total of 10,000 job losses through the end of Q3 FY23. This equates to less than 5 percent of our total workforce, with some reports already being made today. It is important to note that while we are cutting jobs in some areas, we will continue to hire in key strategic areas. We know this is a difficult time for all concerned. The leadership team and I are committed to making this process as thoughtful and transparent as possible.”
how Bloomberg reported further, the development studios of Xbox Game Studios are also affected by these layoffs. So there were layoffs at 343 Industries, Bethesda and the HoloLens Business. The makers of Halo Infinite are said to be affected by large job cuts, while Bethesda, for example, is more affected in smaller areas.
Some employees have already reported on Twitter that they have been fired by Microsoft: Kevin Smith – Senior Designer of Halo Infinite, Jesse Stipek – Video Producer of Halo Infinite and example Sam Luangkhot – Community Manager of The Elder Scrolls Online (via VGC) report on their departure.
