Phoenix Labs, the studio behind Dauntless and Fae Farm, announce layoffs.
Developer Phoenix Labs announced via LinkedIn that it was undertaking major restructuring. The studio behind Dauntless and Fae Farm not only announces that it will have to lay off numerous employees, but also that several projects will be discontinued. These measures are the last resort to ensure the studio’s survival.
Phoenix Labs also says that in the future they would like to focus primarily on the two popular live service titles Dauntless and Fae Farm and will continue to provide their communities with content.
Even though Phoenix Labs has not yet officially announced how many employees will have to be laid off, former Principal Engineer Kris Morness spoke out on the topic. According to him, around 140 developers have lost their jobs.
Phoenix Labs was founded in 2014 by former Riot Games employees. Since then, the studio has released the MMO Dauntless and, last year, the life simulation Fae Farm. Further, as yet unannounced projects were also recently in the works, but were discontinued as part of the restructuring.
