When the words end and the shots begin, the sounds are diluted and confused. The roar of tanks, the roar of explosions and falling bombs, the rumble of machine guns or (worst of all) the simple, devastating silence that reigns in the cities. Originally published in 2021, Fuga: Melodies of Steel It was a bold bet from Cyber Connect 2 in which they decided to develop an anti-war war game, in which there was no glorification of conflict violence or militarism .
In the end, it is not a proposal based on a single genre (turn-based RPG, enormous preponderance of the narrative, etc.) but a game that deals with a theme: the horrors of war . Starting from this postulate, different situations and tools are proposed to deal with it in order to last until the end of the conflict. A maxim that also applies to this second part, Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2, a work set after the events that occurred in the original title and in which we will have to make decisions that will cause us to experience despair, anger and sadness.
A work that stands out for the charisma of the group, made up of young people well above the average anime stereotypes that usually appear in JRPGs -although they don’t deny them either-, and there is still personal or ethical stories of issues that occasionally remind us of the drama of war; We’re not really going to have a picnic.

technical part
Of course, another aspect in which it stands out is in its audiovisual section, which is simply incredible. As in the previous productions of the studio, this one has once again opted for graphics made and animated with beautiful hand-drawn illustrations, both for the decorations and for the characters, and the result could hardly be better and more satisfying. . everything overflows an unparalleled level of detail and care and the artistic line that was followed exudes a lot of personality and good workmanship, to the point of having become one of the most beautiful games of all that the folks at Cyber Connect 2 have made to date, which is not the case say exactly little.
Finally, the sound leaves us with an exceptional soundtrack that has no waste, being one of the best works that have been made so far this year. The variety of compositions is enormous, all adapt like a glove to what is happening on screen and several of the battle themes are particularly noteworthy, giving us moments that made our hairs stand on end just because sound. The effects are also high level and the dubbing comes to us in Japanese and French.
But the best thing, without a doubt, is that Fuga: Melodies of Steel comes to us with texts in Spanish. And be careful, since the translation is a real past, with expressions and colloquialisms very well adapted to our language that seek at all times to respect the original Japanese writing as much as possible.
gameplay
RPGs are the sum of many types of game experiences that range from narrative to puzzles with varying degrees of ambition, and despite the fact that it is hardly referred to, strategy is one of the most essential. . Providing an entertaining, exciting and addictive combat system is just as important as the story. Among other reasons, because it depends on them that we are really interested in reaching the end of the game.
In other words: turn-based combat is a transcendental part of this Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2. Some fights in which our characters on a tank move from point to point for most of the game, participating in many battles. The roads lead us from point A to point B, with occasional forks that allow us to choose between a safer or more dangerous route. The former usually offer healing points, while the latter can give better items. Either way, all of these are pretty limited, so it’s of utmost importance that we plan our moves if we want to be successful.
In battles, this is where the game shines the most, since the tank we drive is equipped with various weapons, although each of these changes depends on the character who uses them, and the additional effects will depend on who is paired with them. . There are different categories of weapons: machine guns, grenade launchers, cannons… Cannons are more powerful than grenade launchers and these are more powerful than machine guns, but the weaker the weapon, the higher its accuracy . For example, we will have no problem hitting a heavily armored tank with a cannon, but a flying unit may be another story.

Our decisions are crossed by emotions, sensations that influence our behavior, emotions and moods condition our ability to decide. Mood and emotions influence decision-making processes. Learning how we operate in these cases can help us be more neutral and practical about it.
In survival conditions where you have to react instantly, emotions can make decisions faster than when we rationalize them. Making decisions driven by emotions is also relevant in Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2given that the decisions we make throughout an adventure that it can be extended up to 8 p.m.they can cause us to consider the feelings of others and empathize with them when making decisions.
conclusion
It doesn’t have a massive study behind it, nor a hefty budget, let alone drill marketing like that of those warrior games that in recent years have gradually invaded us at Christmas. Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 stands out from those products consumed by fireworks and easy to offer consumption more than simplistic shootouts and gratuitous controversies.
Since Cyber Connect 2, they try to make the player think about many aspects, directly affecting everyone’s morality. Not only does it try to put us in the shoes of the various members that make up the work, but it also puts us in the position of doubting that we are doing the right thing in our day-to-day lives. When we make the decision that seems right to us, we go blindly with our idea until the end, without listening to the advice of those around us. And maybe that means we realize the mistake when it’s too late. It’s like that Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2.
