I’m James from Springloaded, game designer of Let’s build a dungeon — we just revealed brand new details about our game during the Xbox Gamescom 2024 livestream, and I wanted to share with you even more exclusive details about what you can expect from Creative Mode in our multi-layered management simulation.

Let’s build a dungeon is a simulation of all aspects of running a game studio; from building a development team to closing platform deals, improving player acquisition and implementing ideas. In our campaign, the goal is to run a successful company while developing the best virtual MMO the world has ever seen. From hiring and firing employees to keeping investors happy; every decision you make will have a real impact on the success of your studio. There are also many moral decisions to make, from deciding whether to force your team to work overtime to meet investors’ demands to tax implications related to the location of your studio.

After the release of our last game, Let’s build a zooI was inspired to push the boundaries of what a building game can be to the absolute limit. This led to the development of what we call the Creative Mode in Let’s build a dungeon; an ultimate sandbox that makes game creation more accessible than ever before.

Create the world of your dreams

The Creative Mode is a sandbox that, alongside the main simulation campaign of Let’s build a dungeon and gives instant access to tools and assets that are gradually unlocked as you play through the main game. In fact, we not only provide the main simulation experience, but also allow you to create your own games.

This suite of creative tools lets you bring ideas to life in the form of a full game that you can play at any time. What you make is up to you, and the only limit is your imagination! Whether you want to create a leisurely fishing RPG or a magic-filled dungeon adventure, Creative Mode has everything you need to make it happen. Browse games created by other players (and some by Springloaded!) and discover brand new adventures waiting to be played.

Join the game (literally)

Get ready for variety when it comes to world-building! Head to the Object Library and create bespoke stories with thousands of objects including buildings, decorations, plants and NPCs, or design your own with our easy-to-access tools. Create additional objects to expand the collection we provide, or design a brand new set of objects in your preferred art style. Write your own quests and design NPC conversations, and even put yourself in the game with our Character Designer tool that automatically animates your virtual self to provide a handy preview.

We’ve been using the tools ourselves to create and share games in the studio as we continue to refine what it means to make games in Creative mode. The first thing we made was actually a recreation of what we imagine Xbox HQ must look like, with NPCs handing out quests to plan for an upcoming presentation on Let’s build a dungeon. Now I’m sitting here writing the same presentation – I guess we were actually able to bring our ideas to life in more ways than one…

To create our Xbox-inspired mini RPG, retro-style sprites and graphic assets were designed and added to Creative Mode, so this nostalgic collection of assets will be included in the Asset Library at launch.

Experience your world as a player

You can jump into your own game at any time to see things from a new perspective. Look at the game you’re developing through the eyes of a player and see the direct results of your actions as a game developer. Switch seamlessly between building the world and playing to perfect your game, making changes to increase the difficulty or simplify quests to increase efficiency.

The creative mode is next to the main management sim mode of Let’s build a dungeon to give you full control over game creation and design. If you want to take things step by step, Campaign mode acts as a tutorial, introducing you to our tools step by step and providing insight into the basics of game design and creation. It’s really important to me that everyone can play the way they want, so both modes exist so you can decide how you want to get started.

I know I speak for the entire team here at Springloaded when I say that I can’t wait to see what the Xbox community will create when Let’s build a dungeon is coming to Xbox next year! And in the meantime, you can keep up with the latest news by following our official Discord server.
