Nicolas Pouard, vice president of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovations Lab, was not kind to NFT critics.
In an interview with the Australian financial comparison site finder Nicolas Pouard, vice president of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovations Lab, defended the publisher’s plans to incorporate NFTs into its games, despite massive player backlash. He says the company will continue with its plans to introduce non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in its games and players just “don’t get it”.
“Well that was a response that we expected,” Pouard said of the large negative response to the Quartz NFT system. “We know that the concept is not easy to grasp.”
“But Quartz is really just a first step towards something bigger. Something that will be more easily understood by our players.”
Pouard repeatedly implied throughout the interview that the player backlash was due to a failure to understand the benefits of NFTs, rather than legitimate concerns about the system.
“I don’t think players understand what a digital secondary market can bring them,” Pouard said. “Due to the current situation and context of NFTs, players genuinely believe that firstly it destroys the planet and secondly it is just a tool for speculation.”
“But what we [bei Ubisoft] first see is the endgame. The end game is to allow players to resell their items when they no longer need them or don’t want to play the game anymore.”
“So it’s really for her. It’s really beneficial. But they’re not getting it right now.”
When told that Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World has changed its NFT plans following player reactions, Pouard replied that it was due to a lack of understanding from players.
“It is sad to see that there is still some resistance based on misunderstandings,” he said. “But I’m not sure we can really compare what Stalker 2 was trying to achieve to what we’re trying to achieve with Quartz. It’s not the same use case for the players I would say.”
Despite trying to present the plans in a positive light, it claimed kotaku
The site claimed that it was shown messages posted on Ubisoft’s internal social media hub MANA, in which employees expressed confusion and disappointment at the Ubisoft Quartz platform announcement.
One developer, confused by the plans, wrote: “I still don’t really understand what ‘problem’ they’re trying to solve here. Is it really worth the (extremely) negative publicity this will cause?”
Another non-platform contributor said: “How can you look at private property, speculation, artificial scarcity and selfishness and then say, ‘yeah, that’s good, I want that, let’s put it into art’? “

This is my final news for Xboxdynasty and it ends a long and beautiful journey with the best community ever! I have had the privilege of getting to know some of you personally over the past five years and I am very grateful for that! But now I will take new paths that will no longer make it possible for me to continue to support this wonderful site about your and my favorite hobby and the best team of all.
It was not easy for me to say goodbye as a “lucky fairy, store fee, rewards fee, SHiFT code fee and now WE fee” – Z0RN quote – and I wouldn’t rule out a possible return either.
Everyone take good care of yourselves and continue to be as lovable as I have seen you in the past!
