Concretely, this speaks of the case of Indiana Jones.
Matt Booty, president of games and studio content at Microsoft, promotes Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to the media and, as expected, he was asked about its next adaptation on PS5.
In an interview with Variety, Booty reiterated that Xbox continues to make game-by-game decisions when launching versions for other consoles.. In the case of Indiana Jones, the decision was made to delay its launch on PS5 until spring 2025 for production reasons, in addition to wanting to offer Xbox players a “great experience”.
“We make exclusivity and window decisions on a game-by-game basis. And each of our studios is in a slightly different position. You also need to take into account each game's production schedule, so the spacing decision comes first. We want to make sure Xbox players get a great experience, and the interval (when available on PlayStation) depends as much on production as anything else. “This is a game that was in production even before we acquired Bethesda.”
Based on this, it looks like Microsoft is going to follow a similar pattern with many future releases: releasing them on Xbox first and offering a PS5 version a little later.. There are obviously exceptions, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which everyone expected to release simultaneously on all platforms.
It's inevitable that controversy will continue every time these announcements are made, but don't expect it to stop.. Phil Spencer even recently mentioned that nothing is off the table when it comes to potential PS5 ports. Whatever happens, we will be attentive to everything that happens.
