Some of the steps Microsoft has taken with the latest 24H2 version of Windows 1 are questionable to say the least. If you’re an old-school server, you’ll remember the world of possibilities added by Windows XP themed applications… You miss these moments where you could install a theme that changed absolutely everything in the operating system, from the font, to the location of the bar, to the icons, everything.
It was lost like my bank account balance. So today we have a fairly weak customization system that allows us to change the color, the wallpaper and nothing else. Honestly, I miss more control.
You can still continue using these apps with a trick…
To solve the lack of customization that Windows 10 and Windows 11 natively offer, several applications were born that actually did a good job. However, it seems that Microsoft doesn’t like it very much
According to colleagues from Neowin, some applications such as StartAllBack, which allows you to create custom taskbars, are no longer supported and do not work in the 24H2 version. It is also not possible to run other applications, but the most recent and widespread is ExplorerPatcher, which the system directly marks as dangerous and does not run it.
This application cannot run because it causes security or performance issues on Windows. A new version may be available. Check with your software vendor for an updated version that runs on this version of Windows.
One of the solutions to continue using this type of application is to change the name of the executable, but this is not the most recommended.
