Microsoft has spoken out about the postponement of Black Myth: Wukong, sparking new speculation.
Black Myth: Wukong has caused quite a stir since its announcement in January 2020. With its impressive graphics and challenging combat system, the action-adventure game was supposed to delight players on PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
However, the Xbox version was recently postponed by developer Game Science. According to the Chinese studio, some optimizations are still necessary for the port. After all, they want to live up to their own quality standards.
The postponement then sparked renewed discussions about the less powerful Xbox Series S. In the past, the delayed Xbox release of Baldur’s Gate 3 had already caused discontent among players due to the poor performance in co-op on the console.
Now, however, Microsoft gives reason to believe that the delay of Black Myth: Wukong has nothing to do with the Xbox Series S.
The Redmond-based company explains:
“We’re excited to launch Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals our partners have made with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the heart of that.”
It is likely that Microsoft is referring to its competitor Sony, who may have secured the time-exclusive release of the action-adventure.
Windows Central author Jez Coedon also spoke out on the case and confirmed Microsoft’s statement. He also learned from some sources that Sony and Game Science have signed a temporary exclusive deal.
Black Myth: Wukong will be released on August 20th, initially only for PC and PlayStation 5. It is not yet known when the port for the Xbox Series X|S will be released.
