Microsoft Flight Simulator City Update VIII: Las Vegas features one of the world’s most distinctive cities. Las Vegas (“the meadows” in Spanish) takes its name from a Mexican explorer who passed through the area in 1829 and found dense grasslands fed by freshwater springs. Founded on May 15, 1905, the city grew steadily over the next two decades, with its population booming with the legalization of gambling in Nevada casinos in 1931 and the start of construction on the nearby Hoover Dam.
Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada, surrounded by rugged mountain peaks that shimmer in the afternoon light. Known unofficially as the “Entertainment Capital of the World,” a key part of its appeal is its diverse architecture, including The Strat, a complex that includes a 1,150-foot-tall observation tower. Visitors can also experience the pyramid-shaped Luxor, from the top of which shines the Luxor Sky Beam, the brightest man-made light in the world. And the Las Vegas Strip, a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard in the heart of the city, is bustling from dusk to dawn.
