The Cadillac of the Sky is ready for takeoff Microsoft flight simulator
Microsoft flight simulator is pleased to announce the launch of the Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing, a celebrated classic of aviation’s golden era that many consider to be in a class of its own. With its bold and elegant design, this biplane has been hailed over the decades as one of the most beautiful and prestigious aircraft ever built. Meticulously recreated by Carenado for Microsoft flight simulatorThe Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is the first aircraft in our new series called Famous Flyers, a line commemorating the most notable and iconic aircraft in aviation history.
The Model 17 initially served business executives, but later served a variety of civil aviation and military applications during World War II. It made its maiden flight on November 4, 1932, and a total of 785 were produced between 1933 and 1945. Its shape differs from other biplane configurations in that the lower wing is ahead of the upper for visibility and performance, hence the name “echelon wing.”
The Model 17 features a cockpit elegantly fused to the fuselage between its two wings, standard landing gear and a traditional tailplane. It measures 26 feet, 10 inches in length, has a 32 foot wingspan and can accommodate up to four people, including the pilot. It is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-1 9-cylinder Wasp Junior radial engine producing up to 450 hp.
The Model 17 has a top speed of 240 mph, a cruise speed of 210 mph and a range of 670 miles. The aircraft climbs at an impressive 1,500 feet per minute and has a service ceiling of 25,000 feet above sea level.
Beloved by pilots, the Beechcraft Model 17 is unique in looks and bold in performance. With plenty of power, aviators can soar to new heights above the clouds or take a leisurely cruise across the countryside.
The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing features authentic cockpit steam gauges and is available in nine classic liveries evoking memories of the golden era of aviation, as well as Xbox and Aviator’s Club versions. Take this beautiful plane on a flight today!
The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing is available today at the Microsoft flight simulator In-Sim Marketplace for $14.99.
