Microsoft is confident that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II or Warzone can run natively on the Nintendo Switch hardware.
When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is associated with the Nintendo Switch, many just shake their heads. The Switch’s hardware just doesn’t grab the shooter.
Everything seems to be just a matter of optimization. From documents released by the CMA on the intended merger with Activision Blizzard, Microsoft claims that it is possible to bring Warzone and Modern Warfare II to the Switch natively. Warzone would also eventually support graphics cards dating back to 2015.
According to Microsoft, “The Activision development team has a long history of optimizing game performance for the hardware capabilities available.”
Standard techniques used to successfully port games like Apex Legends or Doom Eternal to the platform show that they are confident of bringing Call of Duty to the switch.
“The parties are confident that in addition to Warzone, CoD buy-to-play titles (e.g. CoD: Modern Warfare 2) can also be optimized for the Nintendo Switch in a timely manner using standard techniques already used for porting games how Apex Legends, DOOM Eternal, Fortnite and Crysis 3 have been used on the Switch, Microsoft said.”
A potential implementation also goes hand in hand with Microsoft’s efforts to make Call of Duty available to 150 million more players, as was recently confirmed in an advertisement.
