Microsoft appears to be taking direct action on the European Union issue and its doubts regarding the deal with Activision Blizzard. Apparently next week, a Microsoft official will appear at a hearing in the European Union to defend the multi-billion dollar purchase that has been stymied by regulators and Xbox competitors.
According Reuters, this will be Microsoft’s last chance to defend the $69 billion purchase in court; even so, that’s not all, because during this hearing there will also be a “confrontation” of statements against Sony. This one has, it seems, an appointment on February 21, 2023.
This, of course, is not the culmination of the whole mess. We might think we’re just back to the beginning of it all, so there are still many months of fighting and responding from those involved.
Microsoft and Sony in court, the start of a new battle
For now, Sony and Microsoft will finally meet squarely in a “neutral” space to clear the air and make the case for buying Activision. And although Sony had no paint in this negotiation and showed incredible fear in the face of the CMA and the EU, they became a key element in order for Microsoft to proceed smoothly.
For now, on February 21, the first private audition will be held with all these actors. Later, and apparently, Microsoft will devote itself to discussing with the regulators by presenting new arguments in front of the courts; Or that’s what the FTC would have already expected this month.
