It’s Microsoft, one day it creates the best online video game service for you and the next day it surprises you with Screamride spearheading a year of drought in launches. Americans have not stopped showing good and bad decisions over the years. Well, after all, what great company doesn’t?
One of the most important decisions for the company’s virtual assistant was to name it appropriately, and today only a few captures of the new Cortana as part of the Windows experience. While it’s true that the company hasn’t done as well as it should with its AI, we’re not here today to assess what could be and never will be.
Satya Nadella saved Cortana’s name
Luckily for fans, Satya Nadella listened to community feedback and ended up calling the AI the Master Chief’s popular companion. However, Steve Ballmer had other plans, his idea was to call it ‘Bingo’.
This is information that we know thanks to big bets, who was chatting with Sandeep Paruchuri, a former product manager alongside Cortana. In fact, Ballmer wanted everything to fall under the Microsoft brand.
Ballmer had a bad taste of the product. I wanted everything to be Microsoft branded. And then his farewell gift was trying to call it Bingo. But we hope so. Fortunately, Satya had different ideas and was a big supporter of the project due to her belief in the power of AI. Under his leadership, Cortana came to keep his name and was declared ready to ship.
It’s partly sad how Cortana got out of the Xbox dashboard and Windows 10, it was a product that I personally liked a lot.
