A while ago, we shared the news that 343 community developers and modders worked together to bring back content that was never released in Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2. At that time, they told us said they would try to bring back weapons. like throwing flames or enemies removed from the final version of the games. Now, after a while of waiting, it looks like we’ll finally see a lot of that content in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
According to the new blog published in Halo Waypoint, 343 gives voice to the modding team, Digsite, who explain all the news in this matter, in addition to announcing all the things that could happen to Halo MCC in the future. Most of the cut content has been lost over time, so data mining was crucial for 343 to give the go-ahead to release missing content that almost no one will remember was shown at E3 in 2003 when they showed the Halo 2 trailer.
Tons of content to enjoy in Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC
In this search, modders explain their process by finding curious things in the code. For example, they found many textures developed by Gearbox that were never used, so they created a unique map to display them in-game, just like the lighting used at the time.
Two “Ruined Pain” maps have been discovered through the Digsite process, at various stages of completion and gameplay. We believe that this particular variant dates from a very early stage of development at the time. Halo FPS, as it was created at a scale appropriate to the original cyborg, which was roughly the same size as a retail marine. During playtesting, it immediately became apparent that this was causing issues in the retail MCC due to the larger player character, so the patched version was increased by x1.5.
It’s funny how almost all Gearbox Software’s content hasn’t been released in the end, especially when it comes to textures and multiplayer maps.
All the content found is detailed in the blog of Halo Waypointso if you want to know all the screenshots of scale maps, weapons and more that have been lost, visit it and find out everything that could happen to the game. Now it is likely that only the half will be coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but if you own a PC, you’ll be able to play them when they’re added.
Finally, 343 has yet to announce the inclusion of these mods in the console version of the game, which at this point seems never to happen.
