Game Director Stig Asmussen spoke in an interview about the new combat and locomotion options in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues the story of protagonist Cal Kestis five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Apparently, the former Jedi Padawan managed to learn some new fighting styles and discover new ways of locomotion during this time.
As Game Director Stig Asmussen interviewed game informant reveals, players are on five full combat stances can fall back on, which bring other advantages depending on the situation:
“A lot depends on the opponent you face. It’s beneficial to use certain stances against certain types of opponents, and it’s up to the player to figure that out. The player has to decipher the enemies and figure out which weapon is the best choice.”
Part of the new options is fighting with double bladea combination lightsaber and blaster, plus a cross-hilt lightsaber styled after villain Kylo Ren:
“That clarifies where we find Cal in this part of the story. It’s been five years since the first game and the dark ages are still in full swing.”
“He’s an unconventional Jedi, and he has to do unconventional things. So something that would have been frowned upon in the heyday of the Jedi Order. Cal is clear he will do whatever it takes.”
“That [Lichtschwert mit Kreuzgriff] is a more confident approach. It’s massive, it’s strong. But you have to be very careful about how you use it because the time windows are longer with this sword.”
Also the transportation options are more varied in the new part and include, among other things, a kind of grappling hook and the possibility of taming different creatures in order to ride them:
“It’s more of an extended Metroidvania approach. Cal can span huge distances by combining different types of abilities. But it’s also about how to use mounts and how to use them to overcome and master the challenges of the world.”
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on March 17, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
