There are some new rumors about the new generation of Xbox consoles. An external drive from Microsoft should also be on the plan.
According to the latest rumors online, Microsoft has scrapped plans for a mid-gen upgrade in 2024 and is reportedly planning a new generation of consoles including Xbox Handheld for 2026.
Now more information has leaked, but (like all rumors) you should treat it with extreme caution as the claims have not been backed up with any sources or further evidence.
Nevertheless, the Xbox Next is scheduled to appear as a digital console in 2026 and also offer the option of connecting an external drive.
The status of Microsoft’s new console continues to be hotly debated. The Redmond-based company is said to have hesitated and only signed the contracts with AMD at a later date, as it also allegedly has plans with Intel and Nvidia for a new console. However, the hesitation will mean that the new Xbox console with AMD components will not be released until after the PlayStation 6.
When the PlayStation 7 is released, an Xbox could be created in collaboration with Intel and Nvidia. Further rumors confuse these claims and the new Xbox console will be released in 2026 with a Zen 5 CPU and will be placed on the shelves significantly cheaper than the PlayStation 6. According to a leak, Microsoft has a vision of a hybrid console and is not planning the next generation until 2028.
