IGN and Game Informer showcase more gameplay from Halo Infinite. The game’s opening level and campaign provide details on how the open world works.
IGN notes that despite the “open world” Halo Infinite offers rather large sandboxes for the players. Zeta Halo is essentially divided into sections that are like islands of their own and that are connected by bridges over time.

One of the most important activities in the open world are the bases of operations, formerly owned by the UNSC and now claimed by the Exiles. When they are evacuated, they will be brought back under the control of the UNSC, a high-speed travel point will be opened and Valor will be made available. Valor gives access to various weapons, vehicles and marines.
While the equipment provided gives players an advantage in the missions, the liberation of bases and the collection of Valor are opti onal. During the game, The Weapon – the Chief’s new AI partner – will record targets, bearings and UNSC distress calls.

Then there are the larger banished facilities that need to be cleaned up by destroying energy sources. Players will also compete against special targets from the Exiles who provide a unique version of their weapon that can later be equipped.
There are also secret rooms on certain mountain slopes that are guarded by exiles and grant unique weapons such as the backdraft cindershot. Collectibles such as UNSC audio logs and armor for multiplayer, as well as skulls can also be collected, and there is a helpful scanner.
