The Just Cause inventor and founder of Avalanche Studios has started a new studio called Liquid Swords.
Christofer Sundberg, the creator of the Just Cause series and founder of the Swedish developer Avalanche Studios, has founded a new studio called Liquid Swords.
The industry veteran’s new studio wants to focus on open-world action games that are full of explosions, memorable moments and shareable experiences. He names the PC, next-generation consoles and streaming providers as target platforms.
In one Blog post on Facebook he explains: “I took a year off from the game business and it was really a very necessary break. It gave me time to think about what I really want to create with a new studio. What has remained identical to the way I built and operated Avalanche Studios over the past 17 years is a sensible, development-oriented approach. “
“The games we create at Liquid Swords focus on high levels of action and huge spectacle. Having lived and breathed the Just Cause brand from the day I lived and breathed Avalanche Studios to the eventual sale of the company, I look forward to coming back and having spectacular experiences for players to explore, share and enjoy. We have no intention of reshaping the world of storytelling. Leaving our mark and making a difference in the industry is based above all on quickly accessible and consistently rewarding games. I’ve loved the freedom and creativity of players since I first created games and with Liquid Swords I’m sure we will keep these kinds of games available for decades. “
“The ultimate goal of Liquid Swords is to bring game development back to where it should be: intense, creative and fun. At the same time, the game development should convince with a strong focus on building innovative experiences instead of just paying attention to business plans and tables. Liquid Swords is a business, not a playground for aimless ideas. Our swords are sharpened, our mission is set and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds. “
Further information on the developer environment, founding partners, studio locations and the technology used should follow in spring 2021.
