November 2020 Xbox Console Update begins rolling out on Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One

This month marked the start of the next generation of console games on Xbox with the release of the Xbox Series X | S and Team Xbox looks forward to continuing to find new ways to make your Xbox experience even better. As with Xbox One, we will continue to post software updates on a regular basis to improve your Xbox gaming experience based on your feedback, including adding new features and fixing bugs. This month’s release includes new dynamic wallpaper options, new “Optimized for Xbox Series X | S” badges to help you identify which games are optimized for the next generation, a new way to play games in Xbox Game Pass Explore Add existing Xbox family members to a new console, plus the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

Personalize your Xbox Series X | S with new dynamic background designs

Dynamic wallpapers are a new feature for Xbox Series X | S, which allows players to customize their home screen with movement and color. This update adds six new options, including tributes to previous generations of Xbox consoles and others based on popular profile themes. The initial feedback from fans about this feature has been very positive and we’re excited to discover more styles, colors, and designs. You can expect the team to keep adding new dynamic wallpapers in future Xbox console updates!

Identify which games are using Auto HDR with new tech tags

The Xbox Series X | S is the best place to play thousands of games from four generations of Xbox. In addition to shorter loading times and improved frame rates, Xbox Series X | S improved visual quality with the Auto HDR function. When the Auto HDR setting is enabled on your console, it can improve the visual quality of a game without changing the overall look, without any additional work from the developer. If you open the guide while playing a game with Auto HDR, a new tag will appear informing you that the game will benefit from this feature.

With the badge “Optimized for Series X | S” you can find out which games are optimized

Xbox has released over 30 games entirely for the X | Series S are optimized, including Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, Yakuza: Like a dragon, and The Falconeer. Many of your favorite Xbox One games, including Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4, and Ori and the will of the wisps – have released updates to improve the performance of the Xbox Series X | S to use. To see which of your games have been optimized, we’ve added an “X | S” badge to their tiles in “My Games and Apps” in both the “Games” view and the “Full Library” view. You can also use the Filters button to only show Optimized for Xbox Series X | S games.

Check your success status on the Game Activity tab

The Game Activity tab is your only place in the guide where you can examine activity in the game you are playing. Hunt for these achievements, easily join your friends or other players, or discover events in the game – all from the comfort of the guide!

Add family member accounts during setup

In September we launched the Xbox Family Settings app for Android and iOS. Parents and carers can easily create child accounts, update screen time limits, respond to notifications, and more, right from their phone. As a result, many gamers are already using Family Settings on Xbox today. Players with existing Xbox families can now add family members to their console directly from Setup.

Pre-install games that are coming soon on Xbox Game Pass!

You can now view specific games, add them to Play Later, and even preinstall them before they get to Xbox Game Pass. Just visit the Xbox Game Pass app on your console or mobile device and find the Coming Soon section. While not everything

Games that will be available soon can be preinstalled. We created a special feature for the Game Pass mobile app that lets you queue the rest for day one to install. Although you’ll still have to wait to play them like everyone else, your game is downloadable and ready to play the day it’s available!
