Supernatural samurai action returns with Capcom revealed in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
Capcom has revealed more information about Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The action game is a brand new adventure of the classic Onimusha franchise.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new installment in the series in nearly two decades, returning to a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai meet the supernatural in groundbreaking battles. Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released worldwide in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
Onimusha is rooted in the Sengoku period, Japan's legendary age of warring states. The games mix history with Japanese folklore, telling stories of warriors who master the mystical powers of the Oni.
These heroes are drawn into a conflict with the Genma, relentless monsters bent on conquering the world. The franchise debuted in 2001 and immediately captivated players with its compelling sword-based combat and exciting “Issen” counterattack.
The series also gained recognition for its captivating stories, depicting historical figures and real-life events in a dark fantasy setting. After gaining popularity as one of Capcom's best-selling games, Onimusha is entering a new era.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Kyoto during the early Edo period. During this time of relative peace in Japan, evil has plagued the ancient city.
