To begin with, it must be said that as the name of the title suggests, you are in front a personal opinion. I stress this point because this text will not be a summary of the conference, nor will it show any data, dates or announcements of what was seen in the stream. This text is more passionate, with mixed feelings that come together in the Koch Media event organized under the pseudo of Raw material. For one thing is to show games from a more humble court, and another thing is to perform acts as ill-prepared as the one I had to witness. A pre-E3 2021 event that we wish we hadn’t attended.
When the giant appears
I love Koch Media. It is a distributor who brings many games in physics and for the most part they are works of art. Now, with the development of their own games, with all the experience and baggage they have, things shouldn’t have looked bad. Too, This conference raised some doubts that I did not have before. With the releases they have thanks to the Capcom deal, more Japanese games like Persona 5 or Dragon Quest, their agreements with SEGA… Everything could have been special. A surprise at the height of an E3 2021 that people were clamoring for like never before. But “Dreams are dreams” as Calderón de la Barca said, leaving a completely different atmosphere.
Old and new knowledge
I’m not going to deny that the first minute was interesting (yes, first minute). An advance with a succession of games that led to powerful streaming. Big name teasers such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Outwards and other lesser-known proposals such as the Dolmen could serve as a “good starter” before going fully into the main course. Unfortunately, this dish never happened.
I understand that they can looking forward to their games (obviously), and that they feel like talk long and hard about them (even more obvious), but that’s not what the player is looking for. For example, one of their first titles to be announced was Dolmen. Well, it’s not just the fact that they repeated the same footage from the trailer four or five times, but then they did. an interview with its developers which lasted more than 15 minutes. And before that, we were already coming back from another interview with the Warhorse studio (here I’m not playing or anything, totally…). A routine that was repeated endlessly for two hours. And therefore no.
When things start out wrong …
If you have nothing to present, do not present. Having a layered headline isn’t worth announcing at an E3 conference. And no, a member of the team is not going to deliver what you can see on the screen. We are no longer worth what the title designer can tell us, we want facts. And there was none. Some cutscenes pocha on a certain occasion, as in the case of King II bonus, but not much else.
Koch Media wanted to jump on the bandwagon of opportunities at E3 2021, and it was wrong. Also, I think it hurts you more than it benefits you. In my case (our case rather), we even dedicated a stream on Twitch, believing that the scale of the event was going to be greater. At the end, we talked about everything except what was on screen, honestly. The Prime Matter event cat itself wasn’t much more upbeat. Some fell asleep, others did not understand anything and some last recommended to attend IGN event, which was at the same time and turned out to be much better.
Get ready for the real E3 2021
Either way, too bad these things happen that end up “pointing” to the world event itself. Geoff Keighley, master of ceremonies at the Summer Game Fest, and therefore, from the event we have dealt with, certain things need to be raised. Or at least explain in advance what format your Diffusion so that there are no such fears. The players want meat. Gameplays, news, “World premieres” of weight and not half-cooked products like those seen last night. I just hope these events leading up to E3 2021 itself are a bump that won’t be repeated later. We don’t need that. We want the illusion that ultimately it’s the magic that drives us these days to be connected to the webs at all times. Today is a slap in the face, Koch.
