The long-awaited crossplay is coming “soon” for Overwatch ! In fact, the update to the Battle.net platform will allow gamers on all consoles and PCs to compete online. However, it is necessary to link his profile to an account that has been created on the Activision Blizzard portal. Note that according to the FAQ provided, this process will be mandatory with the next update.
At the same time, the American studio made it clear that the cross-progression function was not yet ready. Therefore, it is impossible for you to play on two platforms of another ecosystem with the same account, that is, to restore your personalization items and your profile. To date, this has not been possible even between Xbox and PC consoles.
Although crossplay is available for all game modes, Blizzard has implemented some restrictions. To prevent the clashes from getting out of whack in competitive mode, console players can only play with each other. And those who are on the pc will meet other people on the pc. Finally, note that it will be possible to turn off the cross-play option in Settings if you’re on Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch. On the other hand, the functionality remains automatically active on the PC.
As a gift, the update is accompanied by a “golden loot box” that is offered to all players. As a reminder, the developer is currently working on Overwatch 2, a second episode that brings new modes, gives more space to collaboration and reduces team size.
