Path of Exile 2 of Grinding games will enter early access next month after its three-week delay. Although more details will be revealed ahead of release (especially the final game specifically), the developer has released detailed gameplay from this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
Game director Jonathan Rogers speaks with Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida and describes many aspects of the action RPG. It starts with mercenaries and how they can use automatic projectile weapons and explosives to deal damage. The Warrior is arguably more intriguing, as players can combine different strike abilities to achieve various effects (including repeated attacks).
Contrary to Path of Exile 1Customization and placement of support gems for skills is much easier, but combat has also evolved to accommodate mechanics like dodge canceling. A bit of Monk gameplay is shown as well as a new boss fight in a gradually shrinking space. Another arena requires players to fight enemies in the shadows to avoid direct damage from an energy source.
There’s also local co-op and how it currently works, to the point where the class select screen has two survivors instead of one. With all the different ways abilities interact, imagine six players running around cooperatively, wreaking havoc. Path of Exile 2 enters Early Access on December 6 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
There is still a lot to reveal and we will be attentive to all the information that emerges from this second opus.
