Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo is the new title of the distributor Microides developed by the Spanish team Pendulo Studios.
Just in case someone hasn’t seen the masterpiece of Alfred Hitchcock I put you in a situation before talking about the game. The film is about the detective Scottie Ferguson retired after being traumatized by the death of his partner when he fell off a ledge. This causes him extreme acrophobia and since then he has been obsessed with death, spirals and his fear of heights. Shortly after, he receives the order from one of his friends to follow his wife. This triggers a series of events that I do not tell you so as not to spoil this genius for you.
The development manager is Pendulo Studios a studio specializing in graphic adventures, responsible for Blacksad or the video game series Run away. In that case, the plot revolves around the writer Ed Miller who suffers a car accident. He is unharmed and there is no evidence anyone else was in the car, although he claims he was traveling with his wife and daughter. Due to the trauma that this entails, he will begin to suffer from vertigo and in therapy he will find out what happened on that fateful day. The title is inspired by the original work of the master of suspense and tell the story through three different characters. Everyone’s story will be different, and we will have to travel between events in time to separate the truth from the false memories.
The narrative designer of Pendulo Studios Joshua Monchan said this about fear of heights in a press release:
“Of course, the film was a great source of inspiration, whether it was on the themes, its storytelling or even the visual techniques we used. These reflect well the recurring cinematographic techniques of Hitchcock. Vertigo is not our only repository. For example, the fact that therapy is at the heart of the story echoes Bewitched. Some characters look like the protagonists of Rebbeca, Psychosis and many others ”.
