The small project developed by 12 people at Obsidian was playable at Gamescom. as a reminder Buses is a medieval investigation game with original graphics. So I gave it a try and quite enjoyed those few minutes.
Watson, where are you?
The first thing that strikes us when we start the adventure is that we can define our own character. If you don’t have a choice about his clothes or his face, you can define his character traits. For my part, Andreas had studied astronomy and medicine and was a very good speaker. However, there are a variety of different caps. So your hero could be a good diviner or a polyglot… It’s up to you.
According to the demo, you have to make decisions. They are more or less important and offer different stories. So I had the opportunity to conduct some interrogations and inspect this mysterious body at the local abbey, while David didn’t have that opportunity. He rather wondered about the forge and the city’s surroundings.

The proof is that at Gamescom we are three members of the team that made the demo and when we discussed it no one had the same version of the story. That surprised us positively! In addition, depending on the personality of your Andreas, certain lines of dialogue are available to you. Mine was a medical student, so he noticed details about the corpse in the abbey that he wouldn’t have seen if I hadn’t chosen that personality trait.
Conclusion: many possibilities for a simple demo!
With its atypical graphic style, which may or may not like, Buses made a daring bet. In fact, it offers a coherent universe in a dark time that paints a somewhat dull picture of technology and knowledge. Given our three different experiences for as many editors present on site as possible, the game will not become superfluous and your experience will certainly be different from that of your neighbors. Finally, a small point about the animation, which goes hand in hand with the graphics, I found it very successful. It’s a bet, but I can’t wait to play it again on November 15 thanks to Xbox and PC Game Pass.
