Phantom Liberty, the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, exceeds five million units sold three months after its launch.
RED Project CD announced these days that the expansion Phantom Freedom Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over five million units. An important step for two reasons. The first is that it’s only been three months since the expansion was released. Second, Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch in 2020, arriving on consoles with poor performance. This caused a large portion of the public to take a step back and not purchase or return the game.
The controversy does not end there, and although Cyberpunk 2077 arrived on Xbox One and PS4, its first expansion Ghost Liberty was launched only for the next generation consoles (Xbox Series and PS5), leaving a portion of buyers unable to take advantage of it. Three years later, CD Projekt RED has once again earned the trust of its audience thanks to the excellent work done with Cyberpunk 2077. It received a multitude of updates and patches that made the game one of the benchmarks of this generation.
This was the change of direction, which stimulated sales of Phantom Freedom even above previous expectations. The extension was released for Xbox SeriesPlayStation 5 and PC specifically on September 26, 2023. The base game of Cyberpunk 2077 arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia on December 10, 2020. A little later it would arrive on Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, the month from February 15, 2022. Additionally, CD Projekt RED reported that sales of Ciberpunk 2077 exceeded 25 million in October 2023.
