Hello, I’m Alastair, the creator of PlateUp. I love deep roguelike games that you can play over and over again and offer a different experience each time. And I love playing co-op games with friends. But it was hard to find a game that had the depth I wanted but was still accessible enough for everyone to enjoy. So I quit my job and did it PlateUp – a co-op roguelite restaurant game – was the game I wanted to play. After the great support the game has received on PC with over 1.5 million players, I’m excited to bring the game to so many new players on Xbox with Game Pass.
You must build your restaurant from the ground up to survive in the cutthroat world of hospitality. Spend your earnings every day to purchase new equipment, then set up your restaurant to optimize your performance. You have complete control over the layout. Can’t reach the sink easily? Pick it up and move it closer. Kitchen too small? Move some things to another room. Customers too far away? Cook in front of them – but try not to set your table on fire!
It just starts. You have to serve a meal. Your customers behave.
But it gets hot every three days. You’ll be given a choice between two new random challenges and will have to decide (and your team) which one you want to take on. You may want to add more to your menu. perhaps add a side dish, appetizer or dessert. Or you can add complexity to one of your existing dishes by adding a sauce or replacing an ingredient with a homemade version. Alternatively, you can keep your menu simple and serve more – and more demanding – customers. Maybe you need to remember your customers’ orders, or maybe from now on they will all appear at the same time?
I wanted PlateUp It should be a game that everyone can enjoy. There’s a lot of depth, but you only need two buttons to interact with everything. You can join your friends in the middle of the session, and it doesn’t matter if you’re not as experienced as them – everyone can contribute without getting in the way. It’s not a blame game and there’s no shame in losing; it’s all part of the process! I made it a roguelite, so every time you start a new run you get new dishes to serve, new challenges to overcome, and new tools to overcome those challenges. Everything that lies ahead will be something you have taken upon yourself. Never get stuck on the level you like least again.
Replayability is a key part of PlateUp. It’s great to have games you can play with friends, but it’s even better when everyone can still enjoy them. Every playthrough you play will be different, with everything from the layout of your restaurant to the gadgets you can purchase changing each time. It will be a new experience for everyone, both experienced and new players.
And as you play, you unlock more content, including challenging game modes, dishes, and larger layouts. If your restaurant closes, you’ll also receive a reward that you can bring with you to a later attempt to help you get started. The more you play, the closer you get to building the restaurant of your dreams.
Since the game was first released on PC, it has grown on me PlateUp Team and we have worked hard to improve the game. Last year we added relaxed cafe and bakery modes (no washing the dishes!); We’ve also added Turbo, a fast-paced way to push the pressure and push the limits. All year long we’ve had seasonal maps, each with new gameplay and content. I’m looking forward to bringing it with me PlateUp – and all these new updates – for Xbox players, and we’ve added a brand new dish (the highly sought-after spaghetti) to celebrate.
I hope the PlateUp You can share the experience with all your friends, both locally and online, with Game Pass!
