According to Larian Studios CEO, Swen Vincke, the average playtime for a typical run of Baldur’s Gate 3 is 75 to 100 hours.
With its twelve classes, 46 subclasses, over 600 spells and 174 hours of cutscenes, Baldur’s Gate 3 is bound to be a monster of scale.
As Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke talks to IGN reveals, he assumes that players will need about 75 to 100 hours of play for a normal gameplay. If you want to see everything, however, you will be busy for much longer:
“We assume 75 to 100 hours. Of course, that doesn’t cover everything you can do.”
“That’s not all. This will only be a playthrough. There will be people who go way beyond that, those who want to play through everything. You will probably play 200 hours I think. On average, we see that it takes people around 75 to 100 hours to play through the game.”
A few extra hours of play could also be included due to the different ways of playing, the enormously high replay value or the uncomplicated multiplayer mode, says Vincke:
“We’ve got that [Divinity: Original Sin 2] seen, and it will be no different here. The people who are going to pl ay multiplayer are going to take a year, a year and a half. They’re going to have their regular sessions where they play, like D&D.”
“There will be moments when you can say, ‘You know what? I’ll stop here and try something else’, and then I’ll pick it up again. It’s big enough. Alternatively, you can also play a different character and see what changes in another run.”
“It has tremendous replay value because there are so many ways to do something. I think people will often start fresh. We have an insane amount of classes, subclasses, races and subraces. This is not a small game to be played through in a month. You will play it in small bites. Maybe jump into multiplayer with a friend – we also have drop-in/drop-out multiplayer. There are so many ways to play it.”
“We have too [Divinity: Original Sin 2] seen people play it for years. There are still a lot of people playing it and still discovering new things that are in it. This game is much larger and also has much more depth. I don’t think it will be finished in a month, that’s what I’m saying.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd for PC and September 6th for PlayStation 5. A version for Xbox Series X|S will also be released later this year.
