According to leaked documents, SONY is planning layoffs at its first-party studios and is considering a possible studio closure.
In 2023, the video game industry had to contend with numerous layoffs, which also affected employees of large companies such as Microsoft, Epic Games or the Embracer Group.
As per a new report by My city Based on several documents released by the hacker attack on Insomniac Games, SONY is also planning to take similar steps.
The documents indicate that the PlayStation manufacturer demands lower budgets from its development studios and has also set a maximum number of 470 employees per development team.
Further evidence points to possible layoffs and the possibility of a first-party studio closing. It is not known which studio this could be.
A file dated November 9th also shows that SONY is asking all of its first-party studios to cut jobs in the future. It is currently unclear whether these measures are still pending or have already been implemented.
Insomniac Games is also expected to cut around 50-75 jobs next year. According to the documents, the Spider-Man development studio plans to eliminate the positions later in the development of the two games Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
Cuts to the development teams of a new IP and a Ratchet and Clank game would not meet Sony’s expectations and would also cost institutional knowledge and leadership skills through the loss of veterans, the documents say.
