What a long (and convenient) way! Eight years later Cities: skylines groundbreaking, we’re just a month away from sharing the very last expansion for the city builder that changed our lives. It sounds dramatic, but I think all of us at Paradox and the incredible developers at Colossal Order can hardly remember a time when we weren’t working on the next fun addition cities, or when we weren’t eagerly watching gamers around the world build the most creative, efficient, or vibrant cities yet.
There’s definitely a bittersweet feeling as we announce the game’s final expansion; It’s like we’ve been working on the same city for a decade, but we’ve filled every tile, got every service working, and made sure every street, train, and bike path is perfectly optimized. It’s time to let the city run without us.
On the other hand, we’re as excited as can be to load a clean map and start over ever since Cities: Skylines II starts this year! This is not the end of cities Journey, just the exciting conclusion to the first chapter, and we hope you have lots of fun building it until our sequel is finished.
Our latest expansion is called Hotels & Retreats, so let me tell you straight away that the expansion includes – you guessed it – Hotels and Retreats. Many new tourism buildings will be available in your town, from smaller, low-cost options like hostels, cabins, and small hotel chains that will grow and unlock larger offerings, to large, luxurious resorts. Managing these hotels becomes easier when you put the right resort in the right location e.g. a conference hotel in your thriving business district, a nature retreat in a scenic mountain park, and so on. Support your growing hotels with new tourism structures, expand their popularity and make your city the favorite holiday destination!
Hotels & Retreats is also releasing alongside our last few Content Creator Packs, including Railroads of Japan themed content, historic factory styles in Industrial Evolution, and a taste of New York with new residential buildings designed by Brooklyn & Queens “. We think it’s fitting that we send Cities: skylines with art and style from key city design staples that have stood the test of time, plus a way to keep virtual visitors coming to your city for a long time to come.
Once all of these supplements are released on May 23rd, the original will cities will still get support and love as we work towards the sequel, but of course our next big update will be to tell you more about what’s to come Cities: Skylines II. We can’t wait to see what everyone builds again, and we hope you’re as eager to try your hand at city-building as you’ve been for the past eight years.
