We were able to test the early access of Project Warlock IIthe game developed by Buckshot software and published by Retrovibe. The game is a style FPS that seeks to emulate 90s gamesand although the comparisons are odious, I have to compare it directly with a mythical game like the Duke Nukemand precisely, nor has nothing to envy to the latter.
Although it is a game inspired by old games, they usually add modern elements to it, and some difficulties, now we are going to tell you about it and gut it a bit.
the fight against evil
The game begins at Palmer’s Fortress. All hell breaks loose on the fortress, where you start with a bit of nothing, beyond a katana, even if you will soon start to equip yourself, and very well. We are wizards, and here begins our way to the necromancer’s castle to kill him and all the demons.
Once the game is over, looks like we can use Palmer, Urd and Kirstenand each character will have their own magic skills, perks, weapons and abilities clean to unlock. But at the moment in early access we can only put ourselves in the role of Palmer.
If you tried the first delivery of Project Warlockyou will be able to observe many novelties in the playable, in the mechanics and at the visual level, this is where there is a pretty big leap in quality
Pixer-art and heavy metal
Project Warlock II keep his aesthetic pixel artbut with a quality leap in terms of details and animations. In its improved sprites, with different angles, therefore, it seems that we are witnessing a 3D model, although it is actually 2D. Another point to mention is the evolution in the scenarios with a high level of detaileven having destructible parts.
On the other hand, it presents a setting mixed with science fiction and medieval fantasy. Our character looks like an Emo or a metalhead, but in reality he is a very powerful wizard who knows how to use firearms expertly and with a series of skills that will make a difference.
Soundtrack it was probably necessary heavy metal, truth?. It’s the typical game that only beats this type of music, because of the pace and the amount of destruction it features. A soundtrack with a very good atmosphere, even if the main themes only appear in the boss fights. This may cause us to miss another theme that accompanies the tour.
Shots, abilities and explosions
In this game we will only have 5 armseach of them very different from the others, all focused on using for certain times or enemies. We’ll start with a swordwhich will not spend ammunition but will spend stamina, and we will only have a limited use of it, since we will have to wait a while to hit another sword.
Throughout the adventure, we will meet a automatic rifle, which feels very fast and at the same time has a lot of power. It won’t take long to catch a shotgunbut here ammunition will be scarce, you have to use it with your head, despite the fact that it destroys and you want to use it all the time.
We have cannon as a heavy weapon, It fires giant bullets and throughout the adventure can be upgraded with armor-piercing bullets or grenade launchers, depending on your playstyle. The ultimate weapon is a scepter that shoots magic, but it happens a bit like the shotgun, ammo is quite scarce. You have to use it with your head, because in a few seconds you have eliminated a full hour of enemies.
As I commented above, each weapon can be upgraded in two branches, but we can only choose one for each game we play. May it also serve as an incentive to play it again and try other branches of the weapon.
We cannot ignore the skills that we will acquire throughout the game. We have the first spell that duplicates the weapon that we use, but it will only be for a few seconds. The the second spell is an icy supernova it will help us to stop and silence the enemies. Yes the last one lets us set fire new hands, even if this spell is perhaps the least relevant or the one that contributes the least to it, because of its range, and because our vision as a player is reduced. All these skills they have a cooldown or cooldownwhich will be reduced over time, or by collecting orbs that enemies will drop once we kill them.
what can we meet
The current state of the game or early access gives us a single chapter composed of 6 levelswhich are huge and wide open. In the first episode, they were very linear and short, while in this new episode, it’s so easy to get lost
As we progress through the levels, we will discover a wide variety of scenarios. And if you are one of those who likes to search for secrets or aim for the 100X100 of games, you will probably find some more easter eggsBut I won’t tell you which… To search!
Beyond all that is mentioned above, we can find a few other bugs, but nothing very noteworthy. a body block with certain bosses, which will probably make you die, or enemies stuck in columns which will make it much easier to eliminate them. You can also meet some fairly rare hitbox, but remember that we are still in early access. For the moment we only see the tip of the iceberg of this game, we can only enjoy a third of what we will be able to see in the final version.
conclusion
Project Warlock IIreceived a very important and positive change compared to its first installment. Right now it’s in early access, but it’s a game to keep in mind and even more so if you’re a fan of this type of game, because it looks like there’s going to be a spectacular end product.
game full of paths, secrets, winks and with a great mix in its gameplay, like weapon upgrades, skills, etc.. And we have yet to see two other chapters, and try the other two characters that are not yet accessible.
To finish upgrade Buckshot software for making these early access prints possible with the code you provided.
