PlayStation 5 is the best-selling console in the US in August. The Xbox Series X/S comes in second place.
Circana’s Mat Piscatella revealed some statistics about the US market in August 2024 and throughout the year. Spending for 2024 is now $36.3 billion, 1% higher than a year ago, it said.
This represents 4% growth in spending on video game content. This spending was driven primarily by mobile gaming. An 8% increase in accessories has offset a 28% decline in spending on video game hardware in the US so far.
August: Madden NFL 25 is the No. 1 video game, followed by EA SPORTS College Football 25 and Star Wars Outlaws. The EA Sports MVP Bundle, which includes both the EA Sports College Football 25 Deluxe Edition and Madden NFL 25 Deluxe Edition, was the No. 4 best-selling game of the year in August.
Mat Piscatella: “Spending on video game hardware fell 36% year over year to $208 million in August. All current-gen console platforms experienced a year-over-year decline of at least 34%, with Switch showing the largest year-over-year decline (-41%).”
“The PlayStation 5 once again led the hardware market in both unit sales and dollar sales this month, while the Xbox Series took second place in both cases.”
