It’s time to release the demo version of our highly anticipated game to the world –Bunny Battle Nemesis, a beat ’em up title that offers intense action. But the history of this evolution goes back to the very beginnings of our studio, and I want to take you on a journey to find out how it all began. This game was developed together with an incredibly talented group of teammates. But in this article, I want to take you back to the seed that was planted a decade ago.
It is a deeply personal journey that reaches its climax Bunny Battle Nemesis and the expansive DCF universe. As a young kid, around nine or ten years old, I enjoyed making games without even realizing I was using a game engine. However, as I got older, my passion for game development gave up.
But fate had a different plan for me. Years later, I stumbled upon the opportunity to develop an indie game from the comfort of my home PC. In that transformative moment, a switch flipped and I embarked on a new path as a game developer, driven by a single goal: to create a console game.
Now I had to start somewhere. With this in mind, I decided to create a game for my niece called Yasmin. It was a practice project before jumping into a commercial game. Yasmin, the main character, was a princess who used a magic wand to fight hordes of rabbits in an unfamiliar forest. The idea of seeing rabbits as NPCs actually came from her. When you reach the end of each stage, a countdown message appears in the HUD: “Bunny Battle…Fight!” And so it is rabbit fight got his name.
Back then, DCF Studios and the DCF Universe didn’t exist, but we’ll get to that. The development of the game was exciting and I felt ready for an official project. So I turned the kid-friendly concept into something a little more outlandish – an intense action game. Rabbit Battle Arena was the first game from DCF Studios to explore themes and characters without limitations.
After that, I started the second project that brought DCF to consoles: a fighting game called Cruz brothers. With the growing team we started developing our legendary game. Tony and Clyde, which eventually made its debut. During this time, the conceptual DCF universe was created – a shared universe that serves as the basis for all of our games. We’ve created a comprehensive content guide that lays out the rules of the existing universe, including its gods and the various beings that inhabit its many realms. The DCF Universe, or DCFU, is the culmination of a study that drew inspiration from diverse sources ranging from Sumerian mythology to psychic studies, and blended them with references from movies, games, and pop culture.
Now, after eight years of this journey, Rabbit Battle Arena had become a distant memory. However, the desire to bring it to consoles always stayed in the back of my mind and that of my collaborator Glauco Belini. We believed that the intense gameplay and fun experience would resonate with players as much as we did. Unfortunately porting to consoles was not possible due to game engine limitations. In addition, the project had deviated from the DCF universe. In order to seamlessly integrate it into our shared universe, we had to start from scratch.
And we did! We’ve embarked on a massive expansion, weaving a rich story that seamlessly integrates with our other titles, while maintaining a strong emphasis on exciting fun and dynamic battles. Yasmin’s role changed from a princess to a special soldier. She was joined by three characters: Valentina, Amanda and Khalilah. Inspired by a famous group of green ninjas you may know, they formed a formidable team led by Hell Ella, the goddess of death from the DCF universe. Known as “The Maidens,” these warriors were blessed beings bestowed with the immense powers of the goddess. The rabbits became friendly allies, like General Björka in the demo, who belongs to the Leporidae species in the DCF universe.
And we haven’t stopped there. We have carefully made direct links between our titles. For those who have watched the thrilling adventures of Tony and Clyde through to the end, a familiar face from this demo will grace the final cutscene, adding an exciting layer to both the title’s story and DCFU lore. And, of course, there are numerous other Easter eggs scattered throughout, just waiting to be discovered by attentive players.
Our goal was to capture the same joy and boundless creativity that characterized the early years of DCF Studios. And now we’re excited to invite you to experience just that in the free demo of Bunny Battle Nemesisfrom today!
