This time we bring you a different proposal with Legend of the Guardians. We are facing a dungeon management game in which the particular novelty is that we are going to play the villain. Play to be the bad guy

As we said at the beginning, Legend of the Guardians brings us an alternative proposal to what we are used to in the world of video games. On this occasion we will manage the so-called teachers, who will be in charge of defending the treasure of our dungeon. These dungeons are managed by the company Mazmorras SA, which will have a guide function, in particular the first steps on our way.

For this treasure defense we will have the possibility to choose between three teachers. We will have the slaver, the witch and the engineer. Each of them will have a special ability that sets them apart. The slaver called Maug will be particularly effective in supporting the monsters we use, as well as reducing the morale of the heroes we encounter. On the other hand, the witch named Sarel, will have her main strength in spells, generating various altered states that damage the heroes. Finally, we have Lira, the trap engineer.

Defend the treasure of our dungeon

The first step, once our teacher has been chosen, will be to prepare our dungeon. We will be presented with a dungeon distribution in a series of differentiated rooms. In each of them we must choose what best suits us according to the strategy we are carrying out. We will have the rooms where we choose our available monsters. In this type of room we will not only choose the monsters that we are going to use, but we will also choose their position. There are three vacancies. The location of each of them will be decisive when carrying out its attack, since it is a short range, long distance or area damage attack.

Another of the rooms we will find will be the one with the traps. This trap will have to be well chosen according to the strategy that one leads. It can be decisive to use some type of trap at the start, such as those that generate states that are detrimental to the heroes, in order to carry this damage over to the rest of the dungeon. The position of the room within the dungeon will also be decisive.

There is a room, usually in the middle of the dungeon, where the heroes we face will be ambushed. This ambush will consist of the incantation of a spell by the master of the dungeon. Depending on which one we use, we can choose up to three different spells.

As we advance further in the game, we will reach other types of dungeons where we can include a more legendary monster, mini boss style. The last question is to prepare our dungeon, in the last room of which the professor will wait, guarding the treasure, ready to tow whoever wants to take it from him.

how to play Legend of the Guardians?

We know that we have a treasure, guarded by a master, at the bottom of a dungeon. We left this dungeon full of traps and monsters to defend it, but how to play it?

We will have a main mission, which is distributed for weeks. During each of the weeks, different objectives will arise, among which we will have to choose only one. These objectives can be the arrival of a new hero and his companions, the assault of a carriage, the looting of a camp, the arrival of a doctor or even a merchant and black market. There’s a lot of diversity in that sense.

If in one of the weeks we have the arrival of a hero, in general we can choose between two or three types of confrontations. Each of them will vary in their difficulty and reward. Those confrontations that contain a hero, in general, their elimination will have a greater reward. Once chosen, we would enter combat, having to choose the most effective combination and strategy for our dungeon.

The fights secondary part of the game

We could define the fights like that, because it will really depend largely on the distribution that we have made of monsters and traps in the dungeon. Normally we will have two options to win the fight. You can choose between a classic attack that does damage and sometimes an altered state that produces continuous damage. But we can also choose to attack the morale of our enemies. In this sense, it is a second purple bar below the health bar. Once at the end of the bar, instead of dying in battle, he will run away terrified.

The combat system is fairly standard and does not require much skill. We are facing a turn-based combat system. Normally the enemy will be the one who attacks first, as long as we don’t have a monster with the highest speed. When our turn comes, depending on the monster, we will choose between different abilities or attacks. As already mentioned, each attack will have its range marked. We will have selective attacks depending on the position or zone attacks of our enemy. Some abilities also carry an additional status disease. These altered states can be such as bleeding, poisoning, enrage, burning, etc.

Our fight will have an addition that we haven’t talked about so far. They are called artifacts. These artifacts, like some monsters, have a series of passive abilities that will help us in our confrontations.

Once the enemies are eliminated, our monsters will suffer from attrition. In order to get them back, we’ll have to put them to rest. Another element to take into account for the development of our series or main mission. To recover a point of fatigue, our monster will have to remain unemployed for a week. This can cause you to lose the occasional important game.

It’s not just fights and dungeons on our way

Our monsters will not only participate in these dungeons. Over the weeks, they can also be sent to loot a camp, escort a car, etc. All this in exchange for certain advantages, of course. But we will also receive a percentage of risk of damage or fatigue. This damage can cause our monster to rest for several weeks. We won’t be able to choose which monster will be sent on the expedition, so it won’t always be advisable to choose the riskiest one.

Another of the sections that we will find in this main mission will be the possibility of training our monsters and buying new ones, either from the merchant or selling them on the black market. Everything will depend on the portfolio of monsters we have and the need to have money at that time.

There is another series of random events that can improve us, heal us or combine elements that will be essential to the progress of the series. Its variety and randomness are decent and can sometimes be a good headache or a balm.

As we have already mentioned before, the management of the monsters that we are going to use in our story is very decisive. Being able to suffer from exhaustion or damage, our monsters will be put aside to rest. Therefore, it is important to have a good list of monsters. We will achieve this either by trading with them and buying them, or by also obtaining them as a reward during a random event on our way.

The way to deal with monsters will be simple. There are three sections, the first will be formed by the group of eligible monsters in the first dungeon room. The second section those who can be part of the second room. Finally, a third section in which we will include all those who are resting or recovering from their injuries. The choice of a type of monster for each of the sections or rooms will be what will determine the course of the game.

Our teacher will also have his own section. In this section we are going to evolve it by gaining experience in the different races we have done and being victorious, as well as choosing the type of spell to choose and use in the dungeons.

Final conclusions and personal opinion

We are facing a dungeon management game, with a roguelite touch, in which we will enjoy destroying anyone who enters our dungeon. For all those dungeon game lovers, they will find in Legend or Keepers a different proposal, sometimes hooligan and with that main management and strategy section that will be going crazy at times. It is not a game made for the general public, since its proposal does not include an attractive or attention-grabbing main narrative. On the contrary, for all those who love management, you can find a bit of different and fresh air in this dungeon game.

There is a time when I have to give a little stick. Game control on consoles is often unbearable. Whether by the distribution of buttons to use or by the selection on the screen, it is clear that the game was not developed to be controlled with a controller. In this sense, the way of moving through the different menus or even at the time of the fights could have been much neater. It’s something that slows down the immersion in the game and bothers you not knowing which button to press or not being able to directly or quickly select what you want.
