In September 2013 many of us were incredibly excited to have a copy of Grand Theft Auto V on our Xbox 360s, if someone had told me that almost 9 years later I would be reviewing the same game, I would not have believed it.
At that time I remember admiring the graphics of the title and remembering how far the game had come from that first episode that we could still run from MS-DOS and shine from its overhead view not because of its graphics but because of the story and the possibility it gave us to be bad guys, something that for many young people was the first time it happened.
With GTA 6 in full development, Grand Theft Auto V was designed to beg the next generation of consoles, but nevertheless here it is, and it also arrives with the part that has kept the saga alive for years, Grand Theft Au to Online. a delivery that alone deserves a separate analysis due to the enormous amount of content it has. But let’s not get carried away and we will answer the veiled question that all of you, dear readers, are asking, is it worth repurchasing the title on Xbox Series X/S?
For newcomers (I don’t know what you’ve been up to in the past few years, but I’m not judging you), Grand Theft Auto’s fifth installment follows the lives of three protagonists. Michael is a professional veteran of the robbery and theft industry who, after retiring from the low life, tries to live out his retirement years in his Los Santos mansion surrounded by a dysfunctional family that will lead him to have in legal trouble again after he knocked into a drug lord’s daughter’s house for “error”. On their team will be Franklin whose job as a debt collector takes him to Michael’s house to repossess Michael’s son’s car and he will remain on the team.
Finally there is Trevor, the strangest of the trio, a former accomplice of Michael who believes he died nine years ago and through the robbery of a jewelry store he believes he recognizes the work of his ex-companion.
The structure of the story and the missions remain intact after so many years, with a fluid narrative that deviated from this need to connect the stories to each other, as was the case in the previous installments.
One of the things that caught my attention when I returned to the game so many years after finishing it was the topicality of the satires it refers to and the topics covered in the radio programs that we can tune into any time of the year the game. Without a doubt, the game was ahead of its time, which makes it up to date even nearly a decade after its debut.
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the versions next generation being the graphics, so I will dwell on them in the following lines so that you have an idea of what this section can offer you.
The Xbox Series X|S versions allow you to select three graphics modes: the performance mode which seeks 60 fps with upscaling in 4K on Xbox Series X (in the case of the Xbox Series S it will be 60 fps in 1080p), the fidelity mode which includes the best graphics performance for each console but limits the fps to 30 and Performance RT with 4K, Ray Tracing and 60 fps.
If those who have played the 360 or Xbox One versions will remember that the graphics have never been an issue, the lighting effects and textures greatly improve the presentation of the title, even without Ray Tracing. These effects are most noticeable at sunset and in the reflection of light on water.
In terms of sound, we will not see any significant evolution compared to what we have already seen on previous generations, but it is always a pleasure to browse the soundtrack of the game and the very varied musical styles that it presents in its entirety. station dial. Even turning off the radio and enjoying the sounds of the exterior, car, and NPC voices is still a pleasure.
The loading times have also seen a drastic improvement and although they are not imperceptible as in other productions that make the leap to next generationthey got much faster, even on Xbox Series S where I made this review.
Since Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online can now be purchased separately, the player has the option to choose from launcher which game you want to go to without loading the last instance it was played on.
The title, like its previous versions, is fully localized in Spanish for those who like to enjoy it in our language.
In playable matter, the production of rock star That hasn’t changed at all in this next-gen version, so the moves will feel very familiar to you, even if, like me, you were long away from the franchise or other big name developers like the Red Dead Redemption saga. or its secondment online.
Critics may rain down on the game, but if there’s one thing that’s undeniable, it’s that Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most addictive titles and has so much to do that you can spend days in a row playing without getting bored. If we add to this the technical improvements of this new generation, the game will offer you hours and hours of pure and simple entertainment between the main missions and the countless number of secondary objectives that we will have available.
Grand Theft Auto V is a very curious case, a game that continues to be in the main world charts as one of the best-selling titles despite being released almost a decade ago (and offered by Epic), which has suggested that people have bought it on several different platforms and, in many cases, more than once. So is it worth buying it again? I think that answer depends on each person, their level of fanaticism for the game, each person’s economy and what they want from the production of this new generation.
Are there any improvements? Yes, more than anything, graphics and performance. Will the upgrades make me fall in love with the game? Probably not, but if you already liked the game and haven’t played it in a while, I think this might be a good buy if you liked the version old generation or if you plan to spend a lot of time online. The decision is yours, but don’t worry, this time Rockstar got it right and we’re not facing another remaster case worse than the original.
