La Grande Boucle is back on our Xbox for a new summer thanks to Cyanide
Analyzing an annual product is always complicated. Praising novelties or penalizing continuity is a doubt that assails any analyst confronted with this task. This time, Cyanide made it e asy for us: without a doubt the novelties of the Tour de France 2022 are insufficient
Control + C , Control + V
And this heading not only refers to the more than continuing 2022 edition of the Cyanide game, but also to this review. If you go through the analysis that I wrote myself of the Tour de France 2020, you will surely be able to get a perfect idea of what awaits you this year on your virtual bike. Same virtues and same problemstherefore the best thing is surely to focus this text on the news that we are going to find.
For me, its biggest problem remains its lack of definition when it comes to playing. As sure as you know if you’ve come this far Cyanide and Nacon publish two cycling games each year: Pro Cycling Manager (for PC and oriented towards the manager and management of the race) and Tour de France (for consoles and oriented towards putting a cyclist in control). The problem arises when many of the virtues of PCM (Pro Cycling Manager) are lost in its console port for no compelling reason. Also, although we are encouraged to manage one rider during the stages, in the end it is essential to act as a team leader and establish orders and strategies for the rest of the riders. And this with a interface not as neat as its sibling published on computer, it is a plague.
Also, the game has not improved in terms of the data and information it offers us during the stages, being clearly insufficient when it comes to knowing the smallest detail of the race. In my opinion the game is still not progressing in these aspects in the right direction. Well, it still hasn’t evolved in the least.
Already in last year’s edition of the Tour de France he won a Xbox Series X/S version, although technically it still doesn’t do Microsoft machines justice. This time the move is repeated and I must say that I cannot compare it with its version for the old generation, because The Tour de France 2022 does not have Smart Delivery but with two separate editions
For me, the great novelty is the inclusion of a series of Factors that make stages theoretically more unpredictable: falls, breakdowns, illnesses, random moments… These parameters are adjustable both in frequency and intensity, in addition to being able to choose whether they affect our rider or only the rivals.
From Cyanide they claim to have redone the Tour de France 2022 AI to achieve a more realistic experience and more aggressive rivals. I must say similar things are said every year, but the truth is that things have improved since 2020. We will no longer see rivals rubber stamping unrealistically and illogically and their attacks are much better represented. Undoubtedly a point in favor when it comes to enjoying the most intense stages.
The interface in cobbled areas has also been changed, adding screen tremors, and revamped online ranking modewhere periodic events have been added as challenges.
And already. There are still a few new features that you will find in Tour de France 2022 even if, like me, you haven’t touched the saga for two years. Certainly disappointing.
Besides the emotion of the stages, which still seems to me to be a very successful aspect, its strengths are loyalty and longevity. Loyalty when it comes to presenting us with the real stages of this edition of the Tour de France as well as the teams of the international peloton. Obviously the representation of the stages and the riders could be more realistic, but I still consider it a strength.
The sustainability of the Tour de France 2022 is ensured thanks to the PRO Team and PRO Leader modes, in which one can take charge of a team (with signings and light management of the season) or create a rider and improve it season after season. If you like the playability and the emotion that the game gives, here you have modes for many hours.
In summary, The Tour de France 2022 is more or less the same, so if you like previous versions, now might be a good time to hit the pedal again. On the other hand, I consider that the news is insufficient and that the problems that the franchise has been dragging on for years remain uncorrected by its developers.
