Hideo Kojima calls OD a risky game that is not like other games.
Kojima Productions is working on a game with OD for Microsoft. What exactly the legendary video game designer is developing is not really known.
To develop OD, Kojima teamed up with filmmaker Jordan Peele (“Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope”).
When announced last year at the Game Awards, OD explores the concept of testing your fear threshold and the importance of overcoming that fear. The boundaries between game and film are blurred.
In a recent interview with Variety, Kojima spoke about his ongoing projects. Among other things, he described OD as risky.
Kojima shared: “It’s a game, but it’s a game like no other. I can’t go into too much detail and it’s hard to explain, but it’s a bit risky and a new challenge for me in the gaming field.”
Later, Kojima talked about Jordan Peele and how the two hit it off right away.
“I was a Jordan fan and went to Nope. At the time I was doing a podcast on Spotify. I did an episode on Nope and found out Jordan Peele was a fan of mine. So we scheduled a Zoom call! He’s younger than me so we’re not the same generation, but after just five minutes of chatting he felt like a childhood friend. This actually happens quite often when the person’s thought process or brain structure is similar to mine,” said Kojima.
“Anyway, we decided to meet in Los Angeles. After several meetings in LA, we talked about the projects each of us was working on. I explained the concept of OD to him and he was very interested in it, so I asked him to join me.”
Will we hear from OD again at the Game Awards this year?
