Let’s jump straight to the news – Roboquest will be an exclusive console launch later this year through the Xbox Game Preview program and will launch fully on day one shortly after with Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
But wait … you may be wondering, “What is it? Roboquest?“And that’s a fair question. Roboquest is an insanely fast FPS roguelite that values imaginative gunplay action and precise movements. A comic-style cel-shading shooter with breathtaking gameplay, solo and co-op action, and a futuristic story.
We at RyseUp Studios decided early on to use an open development process. We wanted to make a game that our fans want. We have released an alpha version of some levels from the game and ongoing updates. Our community offers thoughts, feedback and suggestions. We take this information into account and quickly iterate over concepts and functions. We test it, make it available to the community, listen carefully, and then iterate on.
We are a small team. We don’t have the megabucks to throw money into trouble. But what we have is a passionate creative agency by our side, Waste Creative, who has been involved in the process from the start and helps us make wise marketing decisions. So open development allows us to test features, get valuable feedback, and either build on features fans like or get rid of features they don’t like.
We started open development in August 2020, and during that time we received wonderful news from the people at Xbox that they liked our game and wanted to have a chat. As a small indie developer working on their first game, we were thrilled that they noticed us.
What exactly is Roboquest?
Well, the year is 2700. Climate change and wars have changed the face of the world we know today. The people live scattered in the desert and struggle to survive.
A young scavenger girl named Max stumbles upon an old Guardian robot that lies abandoned in the sand. She activates it, knowing that owning a Guardian will give her a survival advantage.
Turning on the Old Guardian begins a dangerous journey that will take the improbable pair of dangerous canyons to huge cities in search of answers to secrets that could save humanity.
It’s going to be difficult. Badbots and their bosses will stop at nothing to protect the secrets that could determine the fate of humanity.
Our motto for the game is think fast, shoot faster. Slip into the steel shoes of a powerful, hypermobile robot and wreak havoc on evil bots. Fight your way through procedurally generated biomes on an unrecognizable earth.
Burnt canyons and vibrant cities are packed with secrets to discover, upgrades, and enemies to eradicate. Destroy every laser shooting badbot and boss in your way.
Choose from an arsenal of more than 50 unique handcrafted weapons. Gather Powerful Technology. Improve skills and customizations for your character and your base camp.
If you’re the only PC gamer on your crew and your friends all own Xbox, don’t worry, we support cross-platform gaming. And while you wreak havoc, you can move your head to the high-octane soundtrack composed by Noisecream, and if you don’t know this artist, do yourself a favor and try it out.
Well, that’s it for now. We look forward to sharing more details with you Roboquest We’re nearing our launch through the Xbox Game Preview program later this year and shortly afterwards with Xbox Game Pass.
