Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have different seasons that affect the game world and gameplay.
Players will experience seasons in Assassin’s Creed Shadows that influence the game world and gameplay.
Producer Karl Onnée spoke with us IGN about the topic, saying: “We worked to ensure that gameplay and art are not separate, but intertwined. You create something new and at the same time remove different paths and routes of infiltration.”
He gave the example of a pond that you can crawl through in the summer with new mechanics or hide under the surface of the water. In winter the pond is of course frozen and cannot be used in this way.
Tall grass or densely leafy bushes continue to provide hiding places in the blooming spring. However, if winter arrives, this option no longer applies.
Bad weather can still limit visibility, falling icicles can reveal your position on the roof in winter, or a howling wind can obscure your footsteps. According to Dumont, players have to constantly adapt to the environment.
According to art director Thierry Dansereau, the seasons will change as the campaign progresses. The aim is to correspond to historical events and create an authentic world.
However, a side quest may cause players to play it in different seasons.
Dansereau said: “But in an open world[Neben-]Quest it can happen that you are playing a quest in the fall and I am playing the same quest and am in the summer. So it depends on the system and the way you play the game.”
