It’s no secret SEGA plans to relaunch its classics catalog in the coming years, as the company recently confirmed new Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio games. Well, to this we can officially add Virtua Fighter, a new game from the legendary fighting series.
This new information comes from a recent VGC interview with SEGA’s Justin Scarpone.who spoke about the team’s development of new titles that “fall into the category of legacy games.” This is part of the interview and what he had to say about Virtua Fighter:
“We have a number of titles in development that fall into this category that we announced last year at The Game Awards: Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we are developing another Virtua Fighter. And it’s all very exciting.
About a year ago, Rumors of a new Virtua Fighter game surfaced ahead of The Game Awards 2023and SEGA itself has stated that the team is “evaluating” another installment in the series. Well, it seems that these assessments have become an active development within the Japanese company.
We will be attentive to more news about Virtua Fighter, but it looks like longtime fans can expect a new installment in the series soon, almost two decades after the last installment proper.
