New information reaches us thanks to The Wall Street Journal, apparently, SEGA is close to reaching an agreement with Rovio. That’s to say, the company behind popular game Angry Birds could be part of the Japanese big business. A movement that would be around a billion dollars. A figure that surprises by its low amount if we compare it to the latest acquisitions in the sector.
Just look at Microsoft’s agreement with Activision-Blizzard, there we are talking about a truly stratospheric figure. What is clear is that gaining new partners and acquiring businesses from your team has been very popular lately. Let’s remember that if true it would be a great addition to SEGA, Angry Birds was the first franchise that managed to sell a billion copies.
Angry Birds and SEGA could be very close
The famous bird franchise began its adventure in 2009, and it did not stay in the first video game. Since then we have had sequels, spin-offs and even movies which made us experience everything that happened in this crazy world that the iOS and Android game first presented to us. Also, if you’re playing on PC, remember that SEGA has released a completely free Sonic game.

However, since 2017, Rovio has gone public with the intention of being able to improve its growth plans; that is, it could be bought by other companies. Initially, they struck an initial $800 million deal with one of their competitors, Playtika Holding Corp., but they were unable to reach a final deal.
Now we have rumors that SEGA could be the one chosen to make this purchase, as we told you at the beginning the figure would presumably be one billion dollars. Far surpassing the first deal Rovio had with Playtika. What collaborations will we have between the two companies? It looks like over the next week we might find out more about that.
