The MultiVersus servers were shut down on Sunday. A limited offline mode will be available to players until launch in 2024.
As announced, the MultiVersus servers were shut down on June 25th. A limited offline mode will be available to players until the 2024 release.
The open beta for MultiVersus started in July 2022, and according to publisher Warner Bros Games, the fighting game was able to attract more than twenty million players within a month. In early 2023, however, there was not much left of these numbers, with the SteamDB database recording a 99% drop in player numbers in February.
Developer Play First Games had to make a decision. Finally, in March, the studio announced that the open beta was ending in preparation for a 2024 launch. MultiVersus was therefore removed from digital stores back in April, but players were still able to play the free-to-play brawler online until June 25th.
As of Monday, players are greeted with the following message: “Thank you for your support during our Open Beta! The feedback and inspiration has been incredible.”
“On June 25, we will close the MultiVersus Open Beta and prepare to launch in early 2024.”
“We plan to come back with new content, features, modes, and more when the game returns next year, and we’ll make sure to carry over all of your progress and content.
“In the meantime, please stay tuned for updates as we work on the next phase of MultiVersus.”
Limited offline functionality will be available until launch. The training room and local games are possible. Players will also have access to locked characters and cosmetic items during this time, and inventories will be restored to their previous state at the launch of MultiVersus.
