The Game Awards will not be as long this year and fewer games will be featured at the event.
With a running time of around 190 minutes, the main show of the Game Awards last year was quite long. If you add the pre-show, it was even 30 minutes longer.
That will change at this year’s show, however.
Geoff Keighley, creator and host of the event, revealed that the show will be significantly shorter this year. The decision to slim down the show was made following viewer feedback.
Keighley did not provide any information about the duration of the show, which takes place here in the night from Thursday to Friday. Rehearsals are still going on.
Keighley said: “One thing we’re doing this year is we’re trying to make the show a little bit shorter. I won’t say anything official until we’re done rehearsing, but we think the show will be significantly shorter this year.”
“We think there’s been a little fatigue in terms of the length of the show, there’s a lot of games and a lot of things that want to be a part of, but we’re trimming those things down to hopefully have a little tighter show.”
Due to a shorter show, fewer games and fewer big game revelations will be shown this year, as the moderator also revealed.
“We definitely reduced the running time of the show quite a bit and just fewer games, fewer big games that are going to be on the show.”
Keighley previously said via Reddit that 30 to 40 games will feature new content and a fair number of new game announcements.
The Game Awards 2022 will take place on December 9th at 1:30 a.m. German time in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and can be followed live via stream.
