It is very difficult (if not impossible) to understand the history of first person shooters without considering DOOM. With his debut album released 18 years ago, we were many players who at some point in our lives immersed themselves in one of his stories while destroying entire waves of demons.
In addition to all the numbered episodes of the saga, we also have a few episodes that expand the story and the enormous traditions what’s behind it. One of them is called Sigil, and it’s designed by John Romero himself who is one of the main people responsible for the creation of DOOM. Romero himself has been tasked with announcing that Sigil will have a sequel and is in development for DOOM 2.
After Sigil, John Romero will leave DOOM to focus on Quake
This was confirmed by one of DOOM’s parents in a podcast from Bridgeburner. Without giving too much detail, he acknowledged that Sigil 2 will have many levels, and that although he dares not give a date for its launch, he assures that the wait will be well worth it.
I think it will be worth it when it arrives … I want to make sure that [los mapas] have very good consistency and progression and are really difficult [y] Fun to play.
John Romero also commented that once development for Sigil 2 is complete (which will take some time yet), he will focus on creating content for another of FPS ‘most iconic sagas: Quake.
