Saga of Sins will take us into a story set in the time of the Crusades, with a platform game where we will have to face the spirit of sinners
Saga of Sins is a game that came to me by surprise. A title that I was completely unaware of and that I had to analyze and I was pleasantly surprised. And it is that the title developed by Bonus Level Entertainment and published by just for games mixes a very interesting story with a very satisfying arcade gameplay, as well as a very beautiful and interesting art section, inspired by the art of El Bosco. If your curiosity has been piqued by this game, stick with us to learn all about it.
A world devastated by the plague
The title story begins with our protagonist Cecil, a cleric who returns from the Crusades and finds a desolate town. Everything is devastated by the plague, full of death and misery, being the cause of the involvement of the inhabitants in sin. For this reason, the town priest tells us that pWe can enter the spirit of these sinners, transformed into monsters, to fight against all the evils of these spirits, saving them. This priest tells us that in each spirit there is a kind of heart that must be recovered and freed, so that he can save the whole city. The story is quite interesting but nothing surprising and very classic.
Very arcade and frenetic minds
Saga of Sins has two very different parts. One of them is when we explore the city and interact with the different characters, controlling our character as if it were a graphic or narrative adventure. The other side of the title and the main one is when we delve into the minds of sinners. Here we will find a very arcade and frenetic platform adventure, where we will control our protagonist in the form of a monster. Each spirit will be totally different from the others, depending on the sin the character is committing.. For example, the minds of sloths will be covered in mud that prevents us from moving normally, or the minds of greedy people will be full of coins that, instead of being added to our counter, will subtract from us when we take them.
Another very important aspect is the abilities of our character, in addition to the forms he can take. The game features four different monsters, with their own unique abilities and moves.. For example, one is more effective against airborne enemies, another can scale walls. It is something very interesting because it avoids repetitions and gives replayability to the levels, since there are chests to collect that we will have to play with another monster to obtain them. Saga of Sins also has character upgrades. The levels are full of coins that we can get to upgrade all the monsters. Not only can we enter sinful minds, we can also enter innocent minds where many treasures await us. We will also have very forgettable final enemies. The duration of the title is about 5-7 hours.
As if it were a work of art
The art design of Saga of Sins is very good. As we have already commented, the game is heavily inspired by the works of Hieronymus Bosch, so if we know anything about his works, we can see reminiscences of them throughout the game. Everything in the game is quite beautiful, so much so that it seems that we are facing a moving painting. Saving distances, it reminds me a lot of Pentiment. The game, on my Xbox Series X, runs like a charm, without any type of slowdown, frame drop or graphical glitches.
The sound aspect of the title is also of a good level. The soundtrack is quite good, with very good melodies that blend very well with the action of the game. The character voices, performed in English, have a high level, although some characters are somewhat forced in their interpretations. The game has English voice acting, but it is fully translated into Spanish.
Saga of Sins Conclusions
Saga of Sins is a more than worthy game. A very competent platformer adventure, with an interesting story that is not common in this type of game. The theme of getting into the minds of sinners and according to sin, one level being totally different from another is very specific. The artistic section is also a great success, it seems that we are facing a moving work of art. It is true that the title has a short duration, although we will get 100% and a secret ending, and the final bosses are forgettable, but despite this it is a highly recommended title.
