Lawsuit Dismissed: Sony Corporation Wins Patent Infringement Litigation Against Genuine Enabling Technology.
Relief for Sony – in the legal dispute Real basic technology (GET), the verdict was in favor of the PlayStation manufacturer. This was decided by the responsible judge in a US district court.
GET filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Sony Corporation in 2017 and sought damages of $500 million
According to GET, Sony is hurting her ‘730 patent entitled “Method and device for generating a combined data stream and for restoring therefrom the respective user input stream and at least one input signal”.
A central aspect of the lawsuit related to the way the PlayStation consoles and controllers communicate with each other. The exchange of two signals with different frequencies is crucial for this.
GET claimed that their ‘730 patent technology was necessary for this signal reception.
However, according to Sony, GET was unable to prove patent infringement.
The judge now granted Sony’s request for non-infringement of the patent and closed the case.
GET has already done so in the past Nintendo involved in a similar legal dispute regarding the same patent. The responsible district court decided in favor of Nintendo in 2020.
However, a US appeals court overturned that decision in 2022. The case is not yet closed at this point.
It remains to be seen whether the legal dispute between GET and Sony will go into another round.
